Abstract
"Games for and through Culture" will be intoducing the "games for culture" and "games through culture" concepts to the participants, followed by a great game collection showcase in cultural games. It will also present how can cultural heritage and cultural heritage institutions can interact with games and gaming.Speaker biographies
Mary Flanagan is the Founder and CEO of Resonym, an independent, woman-led developer and publisher of original board games, card games, tales, & ephemera. Her work extend into games, interaction and product design, architecture, computational poetics, and the environment, focusing on themes such as play, culture, and the interplay between human behavior and digital environments.
Gaetano Dimita is a Reader in Interactive Entertainment and Intellectual Property Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London, where he focuses his research and teaching on Games and Interactive Entertainment Law. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the Interactive Entertainment Law Review, Edward Elgar, the producer of the More Than Just a Game conference series; the co-author of Mastering the Game 2nd edition, WIPO, and a video games enthusiast.
Susannah Montgomery is an event manager and strategic communicator by trade, Susannah started her professional life working in the arts and culture sector. From opera to museums, she developed a passion for creating engaging and meaningful audience experiences. Since moving to the Netherlands, she focuses on co-creating strategic international partnerships, programs, and immersive experiences between higher education and the cultural sector on topics like creative placemaking, data-driven storytelling, and digital rights. Most recently, she joined the EPIC-WE team at NISV to coordinate our game jams in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Portugal. design.
Marina Rossi (she/her) is a freelance producer, digital curator, and ethical designer. Co-founder and event director at Game Happens (currently on hold), a nonprofit organisation based in Genova (Italy) dedicated to exploring the social and cultural impact of games. She has been part of the game industry since 2009, working as a game designer, producer, and communication strategist. She advocates for diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility in any field. She collaborates with MEET Digital Culture Center, a partner in the EPIC-WE project.
