Flipper Front

Survive the rising seas before the government closes in.

In a dystopian future Netherlands, sea levels have risen and the government is expanding into the North Sea, threatening the wildlife that calls it home. You play as seals fighting for survival in this transformed world. Rising seas create new habitats, but government dikes, artificial islands, and restrictive laws stand in your way. This cooperative board game challenges you to navigate the tensions between nature and human expansion.

Game through culture

"Flipper Front" explores heritage through a speculative lens: imagining a future Netherlands shaped by rising tides. Inspired by the Beeld & Geluid archive and the heritage of tides theme, we envisioned how climate change transforms the North Sea into contested territory. Archive images of Dutch water management sparked our focus on the tension between human expansion and wildlife survival. By incorporating the EU value Rule of law, we examine how human legislation impacts animal lives. Our game transforms cultural heritage into a warning about the future.
