Abstract

Dr. Sabine Niederer discusses how the EPIC-WE project emphasized collaboration, bringing youth together for cultural game jams focused on societal themes. Participants explored playful approaches to serious issues, translating them for their audiences while reflecting on values and cultural heritage. The initiative's main outcome lies in what participants carry forward into their futures. It broadens the gaming domain by encouraging playful engagement with complex topics, inviting youth to create innovative ways for others to reflect.

Speaker biography

Sabine Niederer is Professor of Visual Methodologies at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, where she leads the Visual Methodologies Collective. Her work focuses on developing visual methods for applied research into pressing social issues, with a special interest in the role of images in digital culture and media.
